A top dog trainer might cringe at the thought of putting a dog through debarking, devolcalization, bark softening, ventriculocordectomy, or vocal cordectomy surgery. For a number of reasons, this procedure is considered to be inhumane by many, and unnecessary by others.

Debarking surgery is accomplished when a surgeon removes a portion of a dog’s vocal cords with a scissors, cauterizing tool, or laser.

Devocalization of dogs has been outlawed in the UK, along with ear cropping and tail docking. The declawing of cats is also prohibited. Debarking standpoints in the US are more diverse, with laws varying among states.

The American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association both agree that vocal cordectomy surgery should only be used as a last resort, after all behavior modification attempts have failed. The ASPCA only endorses the procedure if an animal is at risk of losing his home or his life because of barking that cannot be quieted.

Ideally, all dog owners would grasp the concept that debarking surgeries are only meant for the most severe cases, in which owners have identified the causes of the barking, removed stimuli, and employed positive reinforcement dog training techniques. This would eliminate the cruelty of devocalization surgeries that are performed on small puppies before they’re adopted out, and debarking procedures that are performed for owners’ conveniences, without any dog training consideration.

Dogs bark for a variety of reasons: communication, aggression, boredom, self identification, and fear. When a procedure eliminates or reduces a dog’s bark, it does not remove the reason for the dog’s barking. The dog will still be inclined to bark, but will be disabled, adding to her frustration. Removing a dog’s bark also renders her helpless in warning her owners of fire, intruders, and her own entrapment or danger.

Humans often inadvertently reinforce dog barking. For instance, if your dog barks while engrossed in play, and you continue to play with her, her barking is reinforced. If she barks for attention, and you let her out of her crate, play ball with her, or even yell at her, you solidify the effectiveness of that bark in her mind. Or, if she barks at strangers, and you stroke her and talk softly to her, in an attempt to comfort her, she will view your actions as dog barking approval.

To curb dog barking, the stimulus for the dog barking must first be removed. Your dog should be rewarded when she is quiet. Positive reinforcement can be fast, easy, and effective when the correct dog obedience training techniques are used.

Personally, I believe that devocalization surgery is unnecessary in a majority of cases. It should only be considered after a dog obedience training program from a top dog trainer has been completed, and all barking stimuli have been removed. When the proper channels are utilized, there will rarely be a situation in which a dog’s nuisance barking will persist. You do have the power to keep your neighbors at peace and your dog away from devocalization surgery; that power is held within dog obedience training.

Dog obedience training strikes again. And this time, it's making its truths self evident in the dog grooming arena.

Dog obedience training strikes again. And this time, it’s making its truths self evident in the dog grooming arena.

Even if you don’t feel badly that your dog’s groomer is subjected to teeth, claws, and an overall bad attitude from your dog; even if you can accept the fact that your dog has to be restrained, muzzled, or even sedated for common grooming procedures; even if your groomer is trained to deal with such behavior, you should consider the consequences of your dog’s ill conduct.

Professional groomers certainly don’t enjoy dealing with dogs who haven’t been conditioned to being handled, deeming the dogs potentially dangerous, but they are better prepared to do so than the average dog owner. But putting that aside, what if one day, in the near or distant future, you’ll be required to groom your own dog? What if your budget, or the groomer’s sensibilities, no longer allow for your dodgy dog to make outings to the beauty salon? In that case, it can be important to consider the part that a dog obedience program can play in making your dog groomable:

Bathing: True, few dogs enjoy being scrubbed to a sweet smelling sheen, but if your dog understands the sit, down, and stay commands, your bathroom might be saved from a tsunami of dog hair, dirty water, and soap bubbles. Puppy training should include plenty of bath time, so she grows accustomed to this shower of affection.

One nip of the quick can send a dog running from the nail clippers. To avoid making that mistake, it’s important to own a dog who knows how to sit still or lie down during his pedicure. Brawling with your dog, just to get a shot at a single nail, often ends with blood and a dog who’s tainted against grooming.

Ear cleansing isn’t pleasant, but when your dog knows that if she sits and stays for a minute, it will be over quickly and she’ll get right to the treat, it can be notably simpler. In this area, dog obedience training means less grappling, tackling, and head locking.

Tooth Brushing: Puppy biting can be a problem for this one; as can adult dog biting. Train your dog, as soon as possible, to sit and to learn to love the taste of poultry flavored toothpaste, and she’ll have herself some pearly poochie whites.

Brushing: Unless you intend on naming your dog “Mattie,” you’ll need to brush her daily; especially if she’s a breed with long fur. Training puppy early to sit or lie down while being brushed will save you from that embarrassing jaunt around the yard with brush outstretched.

Coat trimming, when conducted after your dog is well educated in dog training techniques, can result in a pretty Poodle pompadour, Bichon buzz, or Maltese mullet. But without that dog obedience training system in place, she could be in for nicks, lacerations, and crowning as the worst dressed at the dog park.

When your dog picks up thorns, burrs, gum, or other items that aren’t part of her biology, she’ll need to face objects like tweezers and scissors. If she isn’t the product of professional dog training tips, she’s likely to view these things as implements of torture and pain. Introduce these tools, along with dog training techniques, early in puppy training.

Crate training, clicker training, and other elements of dog obedience training programs are essential for fashioning the dog that you desire; on the inside and out.

As students in dog obedience schools, puppies are often subjected to gentle ear pulling, toe prodding, and mouth opening, to condition them to the fussing that comes with grooming. This is a valuable practice, and when combined with positive dog obedience training techniques, will equate to a dog who sees grooming as a social encounter, not a close encounter of the third kind.

Introduce your puppy to the various grooming implements that she might encounter later in life. Prepare her, with dog training techniques, for the grooming that will be essential to her health and wellbeing, and to her overall gorgeousness.

Any top dog trainer, skilled in dog obedience training techniques, knows that dogs value food. So much, that food treats are the absolute best motivators for dog training success. But, when that food becomes a bone of contention among dogs, or between a dog and a human, a food guarding situation has developed, and can be dangerous for dogs and humans alike.

Historically, food guarding was necessary for survival of wolf individuals in the wild. When a carcass was carried back to the pack, the wolves that fought for the right to eat earned the best, and the most, meat. Defending this right sprung from the fact that most wolves only got to eat every few days, so the opportunity to eat didn’t arise often, and had to be seized. Today, there’s an unlimited supply of kibble, but your dog might not grasp that concept without a little help.

The submissive dog might develop a food guarding habit, or eat her food in large gulps, to protect her meal from more dominant dogs, who feel that they have the right to horn in on lesser citizens’ food. Conversely, dominant dogs might scarf food or develop a food guarding issue in response to the scroungers who circle, hoping to usurp the right to eat.

Just because a dog behavior is natural, doesn’t mean that it belongs in modern day society. The best way to deal with this particular behavior is to properly train your dog and stop it from developing. These dog training techniques can help to keep food guarding habits from forming:

Divide your puppy’s meal into segments, adding a few pieces of food to his bowl at a time, then picking up the bowl, putting more food into it, and replacing it.

Train your puppy by petting her while she’s eating.

Hold the food bowl in your hands while she’s eating.

Train your puppy or dog to sit before filling his bowl, and then ask him to sit again, halfway through eating. Keep an extra tasty treat handy for this exercise, like a piece of chicken or steak.

Interrupt mealtime and ask your puppy to sit. Reward her. Now take a piece of steak or chicken and put it into her food bowl. Stir the contents with your hand. Allow her to continue eating.

Train your puppy by picking up his bowl while he’s eating, adding some tasty meaty treat to it, and then replacing it for him to finish.

Invite other members of the family, and visitors, to perform these exercises.

All of these dog training tips train your dog to understand that you have no interest in stealing his food, that mealtime can be relaxing and fun, and that it can include bonuses if he’s calm and compliant. Employ clicker training elements with these exercises for even quicker success.

Don’t attempt these dog training techniques if your dog already displays signs of food guarding: growling, snarling, dog barking, raised hackles, glazed eyes, or greedy and speedy eating.

Fighting for, and guarding, food is no longer necessary. There’s plenty more kibble where his current bowlful came from. It’s important to convey this idea to your dog at a young age, ideally during puppy training.

Your dog’s survival is in your hands, now. He can feel confident in placing his trust in you, for dog training success in, and out of, the food bowl.

A reputable dog obedience training program, created by a top dog trainer, not only uses gentle and humane dog training tips, but it stresses the importance of puppy socialization. Wolves live in family units, for hunting success and safety. Your dog, a descendent of the wolf, seeks that same sense of safety and familiarity.

Your dog’s ancestors were, indeed, predators, but they weren’t invincible. Especially when separated from their packs, they were vulnerable in unfamiliar situations that included unknown creatures and landscapes. This fear was necessary for survival, and lives on in modern dogs.

This instinct has carried over to modern times, in our dogs’ fears of strangers and unfamiliar venues. Often, because dogs aren’t comfortable in those unfamiliar situations, their fears can manifest as aggression.

For these reasons, not excluding the safety of your family, neighbors, other dogs, and your own dog, it’s important to start socializing your puppy as early as possible.

Starting at the age of eight weeks, and through her sixteenth week, your puppy is the most impressionable. A conscientious dog owner will grasp this brief chance to introduce the world to his or her puppy, to prove that the world is an exciting place, worthy of confident exploration.

When you picture your life with your adult dog, what do you see? Whatever activities you desire, do those things with your puppy, plus more. Here are a few suggestions:

Expose your puppy to children, so that she can learn to view their quick movements and shrill voices as nonthreatening.

Take your puppy for rides in the car.

Walk her on nature trails, where she’ll see squirrels, birds, etc.

Introduce her to other dogs. Dog parks and dog obedience training schools are terrific ways to accomplish this.

Frequent city sidewalks. Give your puppy the chance to develop a tolerance for loud engines, horns, cyclists, pedestrians, and other walking dogs.

Visit the vet, the groomer, the pet retailer, and the kennel so that your puppy can familiarize herself with the smells, sounds, and sights of these places.

Know where, in your town, welcome mats are put out for dogs. Often, banks, pet stores, and hardware stores will welcome your puppy. Give your puppy plenty of time to meet and greet, and get treats from, the proprietors and patrons of these establishments.

Use clicker training to reward her most confident behavior, despite sharp noises, quick children, and unfamiliar dogs.

If your puppy is frightened by a noise or a strange dog or human, ignore her fear. If you reassure her, she’ll mistake that reassurance for reward of her fearful behavior. Disregard this behavior, and save the rewards for the time when she sheds the fearful display.

Don’t force a puppy to take part in a scenario that is causing fear. Instead, talk to the stranger, or stand tall in the face of a noisy motor, and she will take a cue from you. When she finally does relax and join in, click and offer a reward.

Often, dog owners aren’t able to find the time or the physical energy to get their puppies out into the world. In these cases, it’s important that these dog owners invite visitors to their homes to meet their puppies, and that they hire a dog walker or top dog trainer to escort the puppy on jaunts around the great wide world. If these measures aren’t taken, the puppy will grow to be a reclusive dog who is fearful of visitors, vet visits, etc.

Every time you take your puppy for a ride, or a walk, or meander through a crowd of people with her, she’s gaining the confidence that’s necessary to be a calm, friendly adult dog.

You know how it feels to walk into a party full of people you don’t know. It can be disconcerting, and can cause anxiety. Your dog experiences these same feelings in unfamiliar situations, so make it your mission to introduce your puppy to the world, early on. Your dog obedience training success, and your dog human relationship, will thank you.

One of the many similarities you can probably find between proud owners of a pet dog is their ability and success stories of dog training. This is especially true when considering that many new owners of a puppy have no idea how to get their dog in line, and it always seem as if the puppy is going all out in annoying them.

That being said, getting your puppy trained should not be more difficult than it already is, no doubt dog obedience training is an ongoing and difficult process. So to save you from the frustration that comes along with your dog training, this article will give you some tips you can immediately use!

Rewarding Your Puppy Fairly

Much like dishing out appropriate punishment when they misbehave, you should also include a rewarding system for your pet every time they do an action that is desirable. Much like humans, your pet need affirmation and approval from you, by rewarding them you’re essentially telling them that you like what they’ve just did, this positive reinforcement will work better especially when you’re trying to get your dog to learn a new trick, as punishment is a little too vague for your dog to understand if they do not perform the action that you want them to do.

One Step at a Time

It is no secret that you’re extremely psyched and excited for your puppy to learn a host of tricks that you can be proud of! However the bad news is this, you can only train your puppy one trick at a time. Trying to teach them too many new tricks in a day will almost always never give you the results that you really want. This is because your dog have limited ability to learn and thus teaching too many things at a time can have an adverse effect because you’re essentially overwhelming them and leaving them more confused than before. Thus be sure that your dog fully understands a command before your move on to the next.

Are You Frustrated?

If your ultimate goal to train your dog is to have fun in the first place, why are you losing your nerves and temper on your puppy whenever training starts? Whenever you find yourself getting very frustrated, it might be a good idea to take a short break and evaluate where your training with your dog is going, the whole point is to have fun. When you start seeing dog training as more work than fun, then perhaps it is better to just stop doing it at all!

Want to reinvent the way your house feel and look overall? Find home ideas and how to use sliding glass door cabinet to add a touch of elegance to your house! Glass door display cabinets are also excellent choice to brighten up your home!

Where your dogs are your best friends, they can also get ruined and harsh in public and friends when they are not properly trained. Therefore, it is always recommended to train your dog with some professional dog trainer if you are not that much eligible to train your dog. Dog obedience training requires you to cover a number of aspects. This article will discuss some important factors which should be kept in mind while training your dog and giving him obedience lectures. At first place, you should understand the fact that dogs are equally sensitive like your family, friends and relatives. Therefore, you should have a very friendly behavior with your dog.

Many people misunderstand that they can train almost any type of dog they keep. This is a very wrong perception. You should understand that you might not be happy or comfortable with certain breeds of dogs. You might like a specific type of dogs.

Dog training is no doubt difficult, as it is a long and complicated process. Things you teach them today might not be retained and as such you might be surprised to learn that some dogs will take up to months to even learn a new trick. While your teaching method will largely determine the outcome, there are some common mistakes that first time owner might commit and as such you want to avoid them at all cost to improve your chance of getting your dog trained successfully.

This article will talk about some of these common mistakes that you should be avoiding when training your dog.

Before we lose sight of it, dog training should actually be a positive and fun filled experience, this is one mistake that many owners have committed that is either due to impatience or frustration. When you forget just how much your dog is trying to comply with what you want from them and how much they really want your affection and love, its easier to lash out and punish them for whatever they didn’t do.

Constantly punishing your dog will usually not bear any good results, especially when you’re trying to get them to learn new things. So the next time that happens, why not reward your dog for doing the right thing rather than punishing them for not doing it right? This way you can positively reinforce the desired behavior and they’ll quickly learn the connection between the action and positive reward and outcome for them.

Another mistake owner usually commit when training their dog is that they fail to realise just how short a dog’s memory attention span is. There is really no point in punishing your dog for their wrong doing if you did not catch them in the act, this is because your punishment will not be well received as they probably do not remember what they did wrong and what they have done to garner the punishments.

Your dog also does not speak your language, therefore loud shouting and yelling will never help in terms of correcting their mistakes. The better way to do so is to actually catch their wrong doing and instantly correct their mistakes. Training a dog requires a lot of patience; as such you should definitely aim to have that if you want to be successful in your dog obedience training.

You can find countless varied puppy training tips you can consider. It’s important to be aware that it may not be the puppy at fault here, understanding that instead you just could be educating the puppy incorrectly. In order to avoid this, it’s imperative that you decide on the effective puppy training tips that have proven to work. These are a few illustrations of puppy training tips that should work correctly.

Training a puppy to sit appears straightforward nevertheless it can actually end up being fairly tricky, particularly when you’re working with an older puppy. Using this method you are able to tell them to sit any time people are coming into your home and visiting you or whenever you are at the vet trying to keep them calm. Among the best puppy training tips calls for training your puppy this specific ability, and to get started you’ll want to have the puppy standing. Subsequently you need to say to them sternly to “sit” and be sure that you repeat the command several times.

The explanation for this is to use repeated commands to be able to force the puppy to recollect and connect the command with the proper action. This kind of positive affirmation will let them know that they’re getting rewarded for carrying out what they were told. Whether or not you utilize a clicking device, treat or toy the main factor is that you give it to the puppy right away when they obey you. Wait until the puppy is over six months old which is when they can fully manage their bowels, and if they do go to the bathroom inside your home you need to let them know immediately that this is incorrect.

You really don’t need to employ a harmful reaction to try and teach the puppy, like sticking their nose in urine they may have left around the house. This is simply going to bring the puppy lower and make them upset which might actually cause a bigger challenge with potty training. It is also best to produce a timetable for the puppy, as they should be able to grow familiar with this. Feed them their meals at the same time daily and also take them out for a stroll about a half hour after each meal.

These are all helpful puppy training tips that really do the job and also can help you coach your puppy to become properly behaved plus a pleasure to be around.

Are you ready for Puppy Training 101? To get started, you will need three specific pieces of equipment to properly train your puppy: a training collar, a leather training leash, and a 15-foot length clothesline rope.

If you’re already thinking that your puppy’s present leather collar will work, and that his 4-foot chain leash will suffice, you may as well stop reading this article and save yourself and your puppy weeks of discomfort and hardship. There simply is no substitute for the right training equipment. A training collar is a slip-chain type made of metal. Don’t substitute one that’s made of nylon.

One of the numerous things an individual’s puppy will almost certainly understand is to have assurance in you. However he will never develop that feeling of trust in the event you substitute inappropriate training products that are not efficient. When there’s no confidence there can be no respect, and no respect means no want to please. No need to please indicates no enthusiasm to learn. Add them all up and you have got an unmanageable puppy which will never realize his rightful place in the human world.

The Proper Leash

Your leash should be of the regular five to six foot leather type with a hand loop at one end. Training dog collars as well as leather training leads can be found from pet stores and also via online catalogs. Training collars are sometimes called choke-chains, which is incorrect. While it’s true that a training collar can choke, if it’s worn on the puppy correctly and used properly, there’s no way it can be a choke-chain and cause harm to your pet.

The Right Collar

The collar should be large enough to slide over the puppy’s head comfortably, but not so large as to fall over the ears if the puppy should lower his head. A good rule of thumb to follow is to place the collar on the puppy and cinch it up tight for a moment and observe whether you have three inches of chain left over. If so, you have a fairly good fit. It is better to have a training collar that’s slightly too large than one slightly too small.

Final Puppy Training Necessities That You Cannot Find In A Store

The remaining equipment that you’ll need cannot be purchased at any store, but without them, you cannot successfully train your puppy.

You must love and care for your puppy! You must have patience and exercise patience while your puppy is learning. A shallow patience mixed with a short temper will ensure complete and utter failure.

To lose your cool and blow up means the end of training, so here’s a little tip that might help you keep your cool:

It takes 4 to 5 days for an average puppy to learn the average thing. Do not expect your puppy to perform like a professional the first few days of teaching him something new. It just doesn’t happen that way. If you lose control of yourself, you have lost control of the situation. When this happens, your puppy loses confidence in you.

I hope you have enjoyed the first lesson in Puppy Training 101!

If there exists something that most pet owners could possibly relate to it is usually the experience connected with wanting to potty train a puppy which has hardly any concept in regards to the suitable spot to make use of the bathroom and also coaching the pup to become a responsible puppy to make use of the bathroom within the correct place and at the right times.

Potty training a puppy can also be one of the most common areas in which many pet owners initiate the incorrect types of teaching methods. It is these circumstances whereby people could use some practical ideas to get their pets quickly presented with the proper way to use the bathroom.

The very first thing you will need to be aware of is the fact that just about all dogs possess a normal instinct to prevent messing the very place where they sleep and also eat. However brand new puppies may not get it right away, however it isn’t going to take very long for them to understand that they do not want to pee or produce stools where they live and play.

Here are several housebreaking strategies that one could use now which will help get your puppy on his way to becoming suitably taught as soon as your dog wants to use the bathroom:

1. When you get up each day, avoid praising or greeting your puppy until he has used the bathroom. This should become a regimen for him once he finds out that he gets loads of nurturing attention and praise immediately after he uses the bathroom each morning, this specific habit should stick in his head and he will understand what to do in order to get what he wants, which is your encouragement!

2. When preparing to take your puppy outdoors or wherever it is you wish your pet to use the bathroom, adhere to applying only one command any time you guide your pet towards the potty place. For example, I utilize the phrase “Go pee pee”.

3. Whichever way you are taking whenever you direct him from your household to his potty location, make use of this exact same path each and every time you take your pet to make use of the bathroom. This will help to develop a pattern so he knows that it is time to go to the bathroom when you’re walking your pet through the same route.

4. And naturally, it should go without saying you will want to use a lot of praise as well as supportive caresses when your puppy correctly utilizes the bathroom inside the designated area. You have to help your pet to connect potty training with a good experience along with showering your pet along with love and affection is the appropriate way to do it.

If you keep to the preceeding methods, potty training a puppy ought to always be a constructive experience for both you and your dog.
